InCAP2018 Chief Guest Dr. Satheesh Reddy

We are delighted to announce Dr. Satheesh Reddy, Sectretary, Department of Defence R&D and Chairman, DRDO as the Chief Guest of InCAP2018. We are honoured that Dr. Reddy has accepted our invitation despite his busy schedules. Dr. Satheesh Reddy will inaugurate the conference on December 16, 2018 at 9.30 am and deliver an inaugural address to the attendees. He will open the exhibition at 10.30 am and will visit the sponsors booths and exhibition.

Dr Satheesh Reddy is well known for his significant contributions towards indigenous design, development, deployment of diversified Missiles & Strategic Systems, Guided Weapons, Avionics technologies and also for his sustained efforts in advancement of Aerospace technologies & Industries in India.

He graduated in Electronics and Communication Engineering from JNTU, Anantapur and received his M.S & Ph.D from JNTU Hyderabad. He joined Defence Research and Development Laboratory (DRDL), Hyderabad in the year 1986 and subsequently joined Research Centre Imarat (RCI), the brain child of Dr Kalam, after its formation. From a young navigation scientist and System Manager he rose steadily and became Project Leader, Technology Director, Project Director, Programme Director, led the RCI Laboratory, was appointed as Director General and after his decades of innovative, first-of-a-kind, nation-building accomplishments was elevated as Secretary, Department of Defence R&D and Chairman, Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO).

As Scientific Adviser to Raksha Mantri, Dr Satheesh significantly contributed towards the formulation of many national policies and pivotal in evolving roadmaps for self-sufficiency in defence systems and technologies. As Director General, Missiles and Strategic Systems, he spearheaded the missile hub of India - Dr APJ Abdul Kalam Missile Complex located at Hyderabad. He led the design and development of a wide range of tactical and strategic missile systems to attain complete self-sufficiency in Missiles and initiated many new projects to equip Armed forces with state-of-the-art weapons and technologies. He invigorated the Ballistic Missile Defence programme and developed the mission critical technologies for Long Range Agni-5 missile. As Director, Research Centre Imarat (RCI), he led many Programmes, Projects and steered the development of state-of-the-art indigenous Avionics Systems. As Programme Director, successfully developed the Medium Range SAMs and achieved a streak of successes in the maiden missions. As Project Director, developed the country’s first 1000kg class Guided Bomb and laid foundation for Long Range Smart Guided Weapons.

Under his technology leadership, India is steadfastly marching to attain complete self-sufficiency in critical defence systems and is today a reckonable missile power in the world. His influence on DRDO, private industries, academia, and international collaborations and treaties is profound. For decades, he has engendered a conducive ecosystem to strengthen manufacturing and research base in the country so that the industries become an integral part of the national defence programs.

A renowned Navigation and Avionics expert, Dr Satheesh is the first Indian Scientist to be inducted as Fellow of Royal Institute of Navigation, London, Royal Aeronautical Society, UK and Foreign Member of the Academy of Navigation & Motion Control, Russia. He is an Honorary Fellow of CSI & Project Management Association of India, Fellow of Indian National Academy of Engineering, Institution of Engineering and Technology United Kingdom, Associate Fellow of American Institute of Aeronautics & Astronautics, USA and recognised by peers in more than 30 Scientific Academies/Professional bodies in the country and abroad.

For his distinguished contributions, he received several prestigious international and national awards which include the Indian Science Congress Association Homi J. Bhabha Memorial Gold Medal, National Aeronautical Prize, National Design Award, National Systems Gold Medal. Dr Satheesh received the first IEI-IEEE (USA) joint award for Engineering Excellence from the President IEEE, USA.

For his pioneering contributions to Indian Defence and Aerospace, Dr Satheesh became the first Indian Scientist to receive the prestigious Silver Medal of Royal Aeronautical Society, London in the awards history spanning more than 100 years.

He received three national level awards from Hon’ble Prime Minister of India which includes the Young Scientist Award and he is also a recipient of Dr Biren Roy Space Science Design Award, Astronautical Society of India Rocketry & Related technologies Award and has been conferred with Honorary Degrees of Doctor of Science by more than 10 leading Universities in the country.
